This online forum will help Penrith City Council understand what you think are the important issues about improving the quality of life for existing residents and future generations.

We have consulted extensively with the community to draft a city wide ‘health’ strategy. The full draft strategy can be seen on the right under documents. Health is the complete state of physical, mental and social well-being not just the absence of disease or being able to go to the Dr or Hospital.

To make our future as bright as possible and contribute even more to our wellbeing the following challenges are considered in the strategy:

  • Healthy food
  • Safe and active transport
  • The type of work you want
  • The type of housing you want
  • Social lives
  • Your thoughts on childhood

We would enjoy hearing your ideas and comments about some of these.

Please visit at our discussion groups and post your thoughts. This forum will close on 27 August. Your comments will feed into Penrith City Council’s Health Strategy. A summary of our consultation with you will be uploaded to this website in September.

How can more fresh food be available where you live, work or play?

The type of food available can vary greatly from place to place. Sometimes it can be healthy fresh food. Other times it can be fast food- or a combination of both. It can be difficult to eat healthy. Trying to get young children to eat a healthier option can be especially stresful. Some people find it hard to access food due to transport difficulties, low income or physical ailments.

How do you and your friends help each other? What type of community events do you go to?

Friendships and good networks can improve mental and physical health.

How can we make sure children get a healthy start in life?

Healthy behaviours are formed in childhood. These healthy behaviours include the food eaten, playing and schooling.

Tell us about a time you walked, cycled or used public transport instead of driving? If you dont what would encourage you to do this more?

Cycling, walking and using public transport are healthier alternatives to getting around- healthier for people and the environment. Its not always possible though especially when many people have to travel a long way for school or work. One of the ways to encourage healthier transport is through the layout of the city. This can improve safety too.
