Penrith’s Regatta Park is being transformed into a focal point for nature, leisure and recreation in Western Sydney.

This project is jointly funded by Penrith City Council and the Australian and New South Wales governments as part of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program which is a key commitment in the Western Sydney City Deal.

It will increase the appeal of this picturesque location by improving access, formalising recreation spaces and creating more opportunities for locals and visitors to experience and enjoy the area.

The eastern side of the park on the river foreshore will feature:

  • a 112-metre pavilion with undercover water play, amenities building and a kiosk
  • accessible pathways and central staircase to the river foreshore with lighting
  • several over-water viewing platforms
  • kayak launch areas

The western side of the park will feature:

  • an adventure playspace
  • outdoor gym equipment
  • junior cricket oval
  • multi-use lawn space
  • shaded picnic and BBQ areas
  • public artwork
  • interpretative signage
  • centralised car park with 90 spaces
  • landscaping

An additional 400 trees are set to be planted throughout the precinct to increase Penrith’s green grid, provide natural shade, and help create a shaded link from Penrith’s City Centre to the Nepean River.

Some changes are also being made to local roads to increase pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow along River Road and provide better access to the Great Western Highway for residents and visitors.

Plan of Management for Regatta Park

The Plan of Management (POM) for Regatta Park is available to download from the 'Related Documents' section located on the right hand side of the screen.

This POM was prepared by Penrith City Council as the next step in the development of the project, to provide direction and inform decisions as to the use and management of Council-owned Community Land and Council-managed Crown reserves, classified as ’Community Land,’ in the Regatta Park Precinct. The POM is a requirement of both the Local Government and Crown Land Management Acts.
